  Get the facts.

Don't be like Dan.

Dan gets the wrong idea about a lot of things.

Like nicotine being the main cause of smoking-related disease. It’s addictive and not-risk-free but not what makes smoking so harmful.

Nicotine

Dan’s got the wrong idea about nicotine.

He thinks it’s the main cause of diseases like lung cancer. It’s not. That would be the high levels of harmful chemicals in cigarette smoke.

Smokers who don’t quit nicotine and tobacco altogether should know about smoke-free alternatives.

These can be far less harmful than continuing to smoke cigarettes. However, they are not risk-free and generally contain nicotine which is addictive. This video explains more.

Cigarette smoke is bad news.

Dan doesn't realise that

smoke and burning are the main cause of smoking-related diseases.

Nope.

Dan doesn’t know what happens if you get rid of burning.

The best choice for any smoker is to quit tobacco and nicotine altogether, however many smokers don’t quit. But they can reduce harm by switching to a smoke-free alternative. Because these don’t burn tobacco there’s no smoke making them a better choice than continuing to smoke. But remember: these alternatives are still addictive and not risk-free.

Dan doesn’t listen to experts, but you can.

It is primarily the toxins and carcinogens in tobacco smoke—not the nicotine—that cause illness and death*
